Perhaps you’ve heard their songs in late ’90s/early 2000s movies such as American Pie, The Replacements, Clockstoppers and Ready to Rumble.
Perhaps you heard “Lovely Day” in an episode of Malcolm in the Middle where an adolescent, pimple-faced Frankie Muniz convinces his best friends to be on their best behavior …, which lead to a head injury via a collapsing shelf.
Or, if you’re like me, maybe you hammered through the opening chords of “My Own Worst Enemy” on a plastic guitar while your buddy smashed the pads of an electronic drum controller during a weekend of Rock Band 2 and Little Caesars pizza.
These feelings of nostalgia will come back to fans on October 28 when Lit play their landmark album, A Place in the Sun, cover to cover at Brooklyn Bowl. The veteran pop punkers are celebrating the album’s 15th anniversary by playing a handful of shows, with Vegas being their last U.S. stop before they head across the pond to continue the party.
The album was released in 1999 and features upbeat pop punk anthems such as “Zip-Lock” and “Quicksand.” Certified platinum by the RIAA, it includes the instantly recognizable megahit, “My Own Worst Enemy,” which has been featured in countless films and commercials. The famed hit has managed to stay relevant 15 years after its release, receiving cover treatment from current pop and indie acts alike, and you’d be hard-pressed to attend a party where the song is not on the playlist. (The music video featured the band sporting suits and fake mustaches—a trope of ’90s alternative rock music videos.)
A Place in the Sun catapulted Lit into ’90s alternative glory—it peaked at No. 31 on the Billboard 200, spawned three singles and allowed the band to tour with other alternative contemporaries such as The Offspring, No Doubt and Garbage.
